Hello, I am attempting to upload files using the asp.net fileupload control but website refreshes when postback is issued after has been uploaded. This issue seems to occur when the webpage is a usercontrol (i.e. Ascx) but doesn't happen for an aspx. On postback I check if there is a Param containing the term 'language' present to detect a new language and save an item per language. This works find with textboxs, dropdown and checkboxes. The problem that I am facing is that on the current screen I am working on a 'fileupload' is present. Here's a sample of the code for the aspx page: The code-behind has the following code, as well: Page.Form.Attributes.Add('enctype', 'multipart/form-data') I've duplicating this method in the UserControl but to no avail. Each time the triggered button is clicked the web site reloads. I've also tried replacing the HTML Triggers to register the postback from code-behind. For instance, Dim oMgr As ScriptManager = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(Me.Page) oMgr.RegisterPostBackControl(cmdSaveNewDoc) Is there a property that needs to be set in the UpdatePanel to prevent this? Any help is appreciated. Hello Weibo, Thanks for the reply. It's appreciated. I will try to answer your inquiries in the sequence they were asked. I believe partial postbacks are permitted for the FileUpload control when the invoking control, in this case command button is associated w/ the asp PostBackTrigger tag. As mentioned in the original post, this was accomplished in another aspx page whereas the same solution can not applied for an ascx page or UserControl. The statement about the click event not firing by JQuery is when the command button is clicked, the JQuery code is not executing, which I think is due in part because JQuery can't find the asp.net control or 'cmdSaveNewDoc'. I am not sure if the page being a UserControl (acsx) is also the reason why I'm unable to reference the control via JQuery. I will try different ways to reference the controls to see if this will. In addition, updating the version of JQuery may help, as you suggested. Lastly, the AsyncFileUpload control, I believe is for the.Net Framework 3.5 and above and the version of Ajax in the app is below 3.5 and I am certain of the consequences if the version of Ajax was updated in the app. However, I am wondering if creating an ASP.Net or AJAX Server control that implements AsyncFileUpload would do the trick? Hi wrappingduke, wrappingduke I believe partial postbacks are permitted for the FileUpload control when the invoking control, in this case command button is associated w/ the asp PostBackTrigger tag. ![]() As mentioned in the original post, this was accomplished in another aspx page whereas the same solution can not applied for an ascx page or UserControl. When you use PostBackTrigger to upload files, it would cause a full postback, not a partial postback. Here, I’m sorry my expression “maybe you could not easy to achieve using FileUpload control and UpdatePanel to upload files without postback.” is not accurate. It should be “partial postback” not just “postback”. I have create a demo, it would work both normal page and the user control. About your user control issue, you could first create a clean user control that contains the update panel and then add it in a clean page to have a try. Then you should check where is the key point. About the button click event, you should first troubleshooting by yourself with the method you said above. If it doesn’t work, you could provide some front page code snippets. If you are not easy to use the AsyncFileUpload, I think you don’t need to take time to create a custom AsyncFileUpload. You could just use the Generic Handler provide above to achieve your problem. The.net 3.5 below application is a little out of date, you’d better update it to new versions if you could do it. ![]() If you also want to have a try AsyncFileUpload, you could refer to the following link. I hope it’s useful to you. Best Regards, Weibo Zhang • •. Hi Weibo, With all due respect, albeit I appreciate you input, it appears that I am repeating some of the same points made in previous posts. For instance, the issue regarding full vs. Partial postbacks for the FileUpload control. Microsoft clearly states that UpdatePanel triggers can be used to issue partial postbacks rather than full (). Moreover, it has been mentioned that I was unable to reference the ASP controls in JQuery from the ascx page. The following are some methods used in addition to the JQuery code in the original script: $('#<%= cmdSaveNewDoc.ClientID%>').click(function(evt) { var fileUpload = $('#<%= FileUpload1.ClientID%>').get(0); $('[id$=cmdSaveNewDoc]').click(function(evt) { var fileUpload = $('[id$=FileUpload1]').get(0); $('[id*=cmdSaveNewDoc]').click(function(evt) { var fileUpload = $('[id*=FileUpload1]').get(0); As a result, the Generic Handler seemingly is not a solution for the ascx page. That is, the click event is not issue since it fires but since the ASP controls can't be referenced via JQuery, it is failing. Lastly, I didn't state the app is below.net 3.5 but the version of Ajax.
